Come and hear about some of the research from Dr Flaminia Ronca, Programme Director, Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences, UCL, and Professor Mike Loosemore, Lead Consultant, Sports Physician London, UK Sports Institute, Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine, UCL, The Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health, on physical activity and obesity, wellbeing and cognition in children.
You will hear about a primary school-based intervention, to encourage an increase in light physical activity throughout the school day. This found a significant reduction in obesity in intervention schools. It will also cover how physical activity and obesity contribute independently to cognitive development in children.
Work from Kenya on physical activity and wellbeing where they have implemented a daily exercise programme, where children completed 10-15 minutes of physical activity every morning before class will be shared. Improved mood was seen after only 2 weeks of the intervention.
