London HIV Prevention Programme (LHPP) and DO IT LONDON

The London HIV Prevention Programme (LHPP) is a pan‑London public health initiative, commissioned and funded collectively by all 33 London local authorities and hosted by Lambeth Council. It provides a coordinated, city‑wide approach to reducing HIV transmission, increasing testing, and tackling stigma, recognising that Londoners’ social and sexual networks extend beyond borough boundaries.

LHPP plays a central role in delivering London’s contribution to the national ambition of ending new HIV transmissions, supporting earlier diagnosis and ensuring equitable access to prevention services across the capital.

Areas of Work

Communications and public engagement – Do It London

Do It London is the programme’s flagship communications campaign, designed to reach and engage all Londoners. The campaign promotes the four proven HIV prevention methods—HIV testing, PrEP, condoms and U=U (undetectable = Untransmittable)—and aims to make HIV prevention part of everyday life in London.

Recent campaign developments have focused on increasing inclusivity and accessibility. A refreshed brand and new website have strengthened the campaign’s ability to resonate with London’s diverse communities, alongside the introduction of multilingual functionality and improved user journeys to testing and support services.

The campaign uses a bold, culturally relevant approach, deliberately designed to reflect London’s diversity while avoiding stigma or exclusion. By combining mass-reach media with community activation, Do It London works to ensure that no Londoner is left behind in HIV prevention.

This work has been recognised through major industry awards, including a Bronze in the Social Purpose category at the Drum Awards (EMEA), Silver in the Public/Private Partnership category at the Local Government Chronicle Awards and Gold in the Public Sector category for Best Health Campaign at the Purpose Awards in 2026, recognising its impact in improving sexual health and reducing stigma across London.

Outreach and community engagement

LHPP commissions targeted outreach and engagement services to increase access to HIV prevention where it is most needed.

GBMSM programme: Peer-led outreach for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), delivered in community and venue-based settings as well as digitally. This work focuses on increasing testing, PrEP awareness, and engagement with prevention services, particularly among under-served and intersectional groups.
Black Heritage HIV Prevention Programme: A new programme focused on improving HIV prevention for Londoners with Black heritage, who experience disproportionate impacts and barriers to care. This work is grounded in research and co-production, aiming to deliver culturally competent, community-based interventions and communication approaches that reflect lived experience and build trust.

Across both programmes, LHPP works in partnership with community organisations to provide testing, condoms, prevention advice and support in settings that are accessible, relevant and trusted.

A London-wide, inclusive approach

A defining feature of LHPP is its commitment to equity and inclusion. The programme combines city-wide campaigns with targeted, community-led interventions to address inequalities in HIV outcomes—ensuring that prevention messaging, services and support are accessible to all Londoners. Through its integrated model of communications, outreach and partnerships, LHPP continues to strengthen London’s response to HIV.
