Dr Will Maimaris trained as a medical doctor at Oxford University, before continuing to do specialist registrar training in public health in London, including a Masters in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

His senior career in public health began in his home borough of Haringey where he joined as a Consultant in Public Health in 2014 before being appointed Director of Public Health in 2018.

Will built up and led Haringey’s public health team in supporting the population through the COVID-19 pandemic – arguably the greatest public health challenge of our time. Will’s attention is now focused on tackling health inequalities in the borough.

Will is interested in the full breadth of public health and the wider factors affecting health and wellbeing of people. He has notably done a lot of work on cardiovascular disease prevention and as ADPH London lead for Healthcare Public Health, set up the ADPH London Healthcare Public Health / Population Health Network, which he chairs.

Will is committed to continuous learning about new areas of public health and expanding his knowledge and expertise in emerging areas of focus.

Dr Nicole Klynman is Director of Public Health in Bexley and has a passion for improving health outcomes. She is also a salaried GP in Leyton.

Nicole has worked with a wide range of organisations from local authorities (Haringey, Hackney and City of London), NHSE (London Health Observatory, National Screening Commitee), international and voluntary sectors (Medecins Sans Frontieres, World Health Organisation) in a range of capacities, to improve health outcomes.

In addition, Nicole is an Educational Supervisor, Member of the Global Health Committee of the Faculty of Public Health and represents ADPH on primary care and hepatitis C though London and nationally.

She has recently completed the NHS Nye Bevan Leadership Programme and is currently studying for an Executive MBA, though the Senior Leaders Apprenticeship Scheme.

Kirsten undertook her public health training in London at the former Health Protection Agency, St Georges’ NHS Trust, Southwark Council and the GLA. Kirsten was a Consultant in Public Health in Southwark from 2015-21, where she was also an Educational Supervisor for public health trainees and chaired the London Children and Young People’s Network. She was appointed Director of Public Health in Camden in 2021. She has a special interest in children and young people and vaccine preventable disease.

The breath of the job together with the combination of intellectual challenge and working with people is what drew Kirsten to public health.  In her time at Camden, Kirsten has developed a specialist children’s public health function, combining front line health improvement, public health and health commissioning – an endeavour that she is rightly very proud of.

Kirsten is the Children and Young People’s sponsor for ADPH London and is ADPH London lead for immunisation. She sits on the London Immunisation Board and London Incident Management Team. Her work in this area has seen her at times thrust into the national spotlight, including being interviewed on Radio 4’s Today programme.

Sangeeta’s career in public health spans over thirty years, during which time she has held a variety of public sector roles.

Her interest in health equity developed during her first graduate role as an Environmental Health Officer at Leeds City Council and continued when she went on to work as a university researcher investigating the barriers facing disabled healthcare students.

She subsequently developed her skills as a Public Health Specialist, initially within the NHS in Primary Care Trusts and since 2012 in local government. During this time she commissioned health improvement services across a broad public health portfolio and has led cross-council and multi-agency programmes to improve population health and to reduce health inequalities.

In March 2021 Sangeeta joined Southwark Council as the Director of Public Health where she leads the council’s public health programmes, advocates for the health of the local population and promotes Health in All Policies. She has a particular passion for taking opportunities through her role to address the diverse range of social, economic and environmental factors which impact on people’s health.

Sangeeta is qualified as a senior level coach and mentor and particularly enjoys supporting colleagues from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds in the public sector who are aspiring to Board level positions.
