Public mental health focuses on improving mental health and wellbeing and preventing mental illness through the collective efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, communities, and individuals.

The Faculty is collaborating with the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) to host a major conference on public mental health. The event will take place at the RCPsych building in London, with an option for online attendance. The programme includes sessions on:

  • Collaboration between psychiatry and public health (Professor Subodh Dave, Professor Kevin Fenton, and Dr. Cathy Gregory)
  • Data insights: strengths, gaps, and challenges (Professor Ann John)
  • Evidence base (David McDaid)
  • Research priorities for public mental health (Professor Jayati Das-Munshi and Dan Barrett)
  • Promotion and prevention evidence (panel discussion)
  • Improving physical health for those with serious mental illness (Ogechi Anokwuru and Susanna Mills)
  • Work, welfare, and mental health (Dr. Jed Boardman)
  • Wellbeing interventions in practice (Emily van der Venter, Amy Davies, Caron Walker, and Rachel Brighton)
  • Children and young people’s mental health (Lori Hawthorn, Dr. Sarah-Jane Fenton, and Dr. Jess Mundy)
  • Research priorities and public involvement (Gillian Samuel, Joyce Coker, and Jason Grant)
  • Addressing commercial determinants of health (Professor Mark Petticrew)
  • Next steps (Dr. Peter Byrne and Maeve Gill)
