When

8 October 2024
09:30 - 13:00

Citizens Advice, in collaboration with Food Roots partners, is launching Level 2 Healthy Start Plus training this autumn across London. This comprehensive training is designed to empower front-line staff and volunteers in various organisations with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify and support eligible individuals in applying for Healthy Start benefits.

This training is ideal for existing Food Roots partners, local authority teams, public health professionals, family support workers, and any front-line staff or volunteers who regularly engage with vulnerable communities in London.

With thanks to the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London for funding this training.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Eligibility Identification: Gain the skills to identify individuals eligible for Healthy Start benefits and guide them through the application process.
  • Holistic Support: Develop a comprehensive understanding of how to provide additional support to pregnant women, young mothers, and families. This includes income maximization strategies, an introduction to key benefits such as Universal Credit, cost of living assistance, and childcare entitlements.
  • Connecting to Resources: Learn how to connect individuals to a range of local and national support services, both face-to-face and through digital platforms.

This training builds on the foundational Advice First Aid provided by London Citizens Advice, as well as the existing Level 1 training for Food Roots partners, enhancing your capacity to provide well-rounded support.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Identifying Broader Issues: Learn to recognize and address wider issues affecting individuals and families, directing them to the appropriate advice services.
  • Active Listening & Referrals: Improve your active listening skills, understand how to effectively signpost to advice services, and gather essential information to make effective referrals to additional support services.
  • Comprehensive Support: Enhance your ability to provide thorough and informed support by connecting individuals to the most relevant resources and information available.

This Pan-London training will be piloted across various partnerships in London, starting this autumn. Participants will not only strengthen their ability to support Healthy Start applications but will also expand their capacity to assist with a wide range of other support services.
