In the latest episode of our video podcast, made with Panoramic Associates, Siobhan Farmer, DPH Gloucestershire, shares her thoughts on the DPH role.

Siobhan reflects on her move from laboratory-based science into public-facing roles, sparked by a desire to understand the real stories behind the data. Motivated by questions around why health outcomes vary so starkly, even in affluent societies, her career has been shaped by work in healthy weight programmes, sexual health and drug services, contact tracing, and tackling the social determinants of health.

Siobhan speaks candidly about her family’s experience of alcohol misuse, its long-term impact and the need for compassion, honesty and cultural change. She also gives advice to aspiring DsPH, and reflects on what leadership means for her.
