Poverty and Public Health

Economic circumstances have the greatest influence on our health and wellbeing. We must focus on lifting people out of poverty to live longer, healthier lives.

Sarah Muckle
ADPH Policy Lead for Children and Young People

Earlier today, Sarah Muckle, our policy lead for children and young people and DPH for Essex, opened the ‘Poverty and Public Health’ conference, held in partnership with the Faculty of Public Health, Royal Society of Medicine and Royal Society for Public Health.

Throughout the day, experts from across these leading public health organisations are exploring how public health professionals and practitioners can take meaningful local action to address poverty.

The event features three key sessions focused on:

  • Child poverty
  • The housing crisis
  • The NHS and the prevention agenda

The conference, which is now in its third year, has been focusing on the critical links between poverty and health, sharing best practice, and identifying practical solutionsto give attendees actionable insights and strategies to drive impactful change in their local communities.
