Government study to investigate the health effects of vaping on young people

Alison Challenger, ADPH Lead for Addiction, has welcomed the announcement by the Government of a 10-year study that will include an investigation of the long term effects of vaping on young people’s health.

“The increase in young people who have never smoked, yet who have taken up vaping is a concern for many, and it is essential that we understand the long term health risks.

”By knowing the long term impacts, we can learn the best ways to look at prevention, including making sure that there is stronger enforcement and regulations as proposed in the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. Banning the sale of vaping and nicotine products to children and young people under 18, will help reduce uptake, and potential harm.

“We must do all we can to protect the health and wellbeing of the next generation, laying the foundations for a healthier, more productive, and smoke free UK.”
