Response to riots and unrest
As the country begins to recover from the last two weeks of violence, our thoughts remain firmly with the families of those who died or were injured in Southport last month.
We have been deeply saddened by the riots in other towns and cities across the UK, which have been rooted in racism and intolerance, stoked by disinformation, and ADPH condemns this violence and disorder in the strongest possible terms.
Whilst it has been encouraging to see the community spirit in many areas helping to clean up and repair the physical damage done, the attacks have caused widespread distress and fear which will take much longer to address. As public health leaders, colleagues and communities will look to our members in the days and weeks ahead and Directors of Public Health will play their part in the effort to support communities, promoting inclusiveness, fairness and equity – values which are fundamental to a society which allows everyone to live healthier lives for longer.
