Greg Fell announced as new ADPH President
As our Vice President, Greg has been a fantastic ambassador for DsPH and I know I speak for both staff and members alike in saying that we are looking forward to working with him in his new role as President.

ADPH Chief Executive
I am delighted – not to mention a little humbled – that members have put their faith in me as President of ADPH. I am looking forward to continuing the work Jim [McManus] has done to highlight the vitally important role Directors of Public Health and their teams do in promoting and protecting the health of our society.
Greg Fell
ADPH President
Today, we are delighted to announced Greg Fell as the new ADPH President.
Greg, who is also Director of Public Health for Sheffield, has been the Association’s Vice President since 2021 and was elected as President following the departure of Prof. Jim McManus to Public Health Wales.
Nicola Close, ADPH Chief Executive, said:
“Directors of Public Health (DsPH) are responsible for the health of all the residents in their area. This doesn’t just mean protecting communities from outbreaks of disease. It also involves promoting good health and introducing measures to improve people’s health so that diseases like cancer or diabetes can be prevented. It is a high-level, complex role that relies on working collaboratively with a huge range of people and organisations. Our job is to support DsPH professionally and represent their views at a national level.
“We are a very small organisation and our members are absolutely central to everything we do. Since the pandemic, when DsPH were thrown into the spotlight, we have been working hard to make sure that the full range of their responsibilities and expertise is recognised both nationally and locally.
“As our Vice President, Greg has been a fantastic ambassador for DsPH and I know I speak for both staff and members alike in saying that we are looking forward to working with him in his new role as President.”
Greg Fell, who has been an ADPH member since becoming DPH of Sheffield in 2016, said:
“I am delighted – not to mention a little humbled – that members have put their faith in me as President of ADPH. I am looking forward to continuing the work Jim [McManus] has done to highlight the vitally important role Directors of Public Health and their teams do in promoting and protecting the health of our society.
“There is much to do, and we need to keep our focus on supporting and strengthening the many things our members and their teams do to improve and protect the public’s health. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a brilliant team and look forward to developing the future policy agenda with them.
“I would also like to pay tribute to Jim [McManus] as he leaves us for pastures new. He has been an exceptional President for ADPH and led the organisation with a drive and passion that will take a lot of living up to.”
In addition to his role on the Board of ADPH, Fell sits on the UK National Screening Committee, advising ministers and the NHS across the UK on screening and implementation of screening programmes.
