A recipe for change
We are very proud to be part of the #RecipeForChange campaign, joining together with partners across the health sector to call on the Government to introduce a new industry-wide levy on salt and sugar.
A new levy could prevent 2,000,000 cases of disease over the next 25 years.
Currently, the UK population consumes 50% more sugar and 40% more salt than recommended. A staggering 85% of our salt intake is already in food when we buy it and 60% of our sugar comes from just three categories:
- biscuits
- confectionery
- desserts
We are not alone – 73% of the public support action by the Government to require food manufacturers to reduce sugar and salt from everyday foods.
