ADPH responds to new £5m innovation fund
Responding to today’s announcement of a new £5 million innovation fund to reduce drug use from the Department of Health and Social Care, ADPH President, Jim McManus, said:
“The new innovation fund to reduce drug use is of course welcome news. It is absolutely right that we move away from thinking only of treatment, and deliver a range of quality, preventative programmes that develop young people’s skills, knowledge, understanding and resilience.
“However, this funding is only short term. What is needed is long-term, consistent funding that means Directors of Public Health are able to fund these types of life saving initiatives sustainably, year after year, so that they continue to reach people for generations to come and help to reduce drug use and harm permanently.”
