SUMMARY:Unconference: Supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Hongkon
 gers in London
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nJoin Thrive LDN\, the Greater London Authority and a ran
ge of Hong Kong community organisations for an unconference event which ai
ms to enhance engagement and peer networking between Hong Kong communities
and policy makers across London.\n\nThe unconference will explore what po
licy makers\, those within the health and care system\, and those in a pos
ition to create changes can do to help unblock and resolve issues identifi
 ed by Hongkongers.\n\nWhen: Wednesday\, 23 October\, 9.30am – 1.30pm.\n
\nWhere: This will be an in-person event\, held at Derbyshire House\, Sai
 nt Chad's Street\, London\, WC1H 8AB.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\nCo-developing
policy recommendations\nThrive LDN\, in partnership with Hong Kong communi
ty organisations and supported with funding from the Greater London Author
ity (GLA)\, is working to co-develop a series of policy recommendations wh
ich support the mental health and wellbeing of Hongkongers living in Londo
n.\n\nDuring September 2024\, community organisations have been collecting
and analysing insights\, experiences and feedback from the Hong Kong comm
unity across London.\n\nThis work has focused on the specific challenges H
ongkongers are facing in relation to their mental health and wellbeing. Th
emes include but aren’t limited to loneliness and isolation\, pre-existi
ng long term mental and physical health conditions\, cultural awareness an
d translation\, relationship and trust with services and views of treatmen
t and mental health support.\n\nThis half day unconference session will ex
plore these insights through discussion\, exploration and debate facilitat
ed by the community organisations involved in the planning\, ultimately op
ening up dialogue for the best ways of supporting the mental health and we
llbeing of Hongkongers in London.\n\nIt also provides an opportunity for n
etworking and sharing examples of good practice and strengths of the Hong
Kong community in London.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the unconference format\nAn unc
onference is an informal participant-driven event where participants deci
de on the topics and lead discussions\, rather than following a convention
ally structured programme of events. Instead of a fixed schedule (as you m
ight in a traditional conference)\, participants choose what they want to
talk about.\n\nTaking this approach creates an opportunity to have open co
nversations with community organisations supporting Hongkongers and policy
makers to unpick the key challenges faced by Hongkongers in London and com
e up with ways we can collectively unblock them.\n\n\n\n\n\nFurther enquir
ies and information\nIf you are unable to attend\, but would like to contr
ibute to the discussions please do not hesitate to get in touch with the T
hrive LDN team via righttothrive@thriveldn.co.uk.\nAbout the project part
ners and delivery\nThis project is supported by the Mayor of London as par
t of the Greater London Authority’s London Hong Kong Welcome Programme.
Thrive LDN is working with Basis to deliver the unconference and supp
ort facilitation across this work. Basis help public services tackle messy
problems\, co-delivering effective change. They have specialist experienc
e in delivering and co-facilitating online workshops with civil society or
ganisations\, local\, national government and UN organisations especially
for UNHCR. They have specialist knowledge in supporting displaced communit
 ies.\n\n\nSign up here\n\n
