SUMMARY:PH Tackling Racism and Inequality(PHTRI)/National Health Service En
gland(NHSE)Improving Ethnicity Recording: Multi Regional Call for Collabor
 ative Action
DESCRIPTION:This workshop brings together people working to reduce inequity
through improving ethnicity recording across health and public sector ser
vices.\n\nObjectives:\n\n To connect organisations and individuals workin
g to improve ethnicity recording across health and public sector services.
\n To share examples of work undertaken to improve ethnicity recording\,
and proposed actions for the future.\n To facilitate collaborative action
to improve ethnicity recording\, optimising use of expertise and limited
resources and application of learning to practice.\n\nBackground\n\nEthnic
ity data has been used in the health and care system to understand\, monit
or and target efforts to address ethnic health inequalities. The COVID-19
pandemic further highlighted longstanding health inequalities experienced
by people from ethnic minority backgrounds across the breadth of health an
d care services.\n\nNHS England described five strategic priorities for re
ducing health inequalities ((NHS England\, 2021/22 priorities and operatio
nal planning guidance: Implementation guidance).\n\nIn order to understand
these inequalities\, and to target efforts where they are most needed\, P
HTRI/NHSE need to ensure data relating to demographics\, including ethnici
ty\, is complete and accurate. Work is therefore needed to ensure datasets
are complete and timely\, particularly with regard to ethnicity coding.\n
\nThe challenges regarding improving ethnicity recording are complex\, and
impact across health and care systems across the country at all levels. T
hrough sharing learning and collaborating PHTRI/NHSE can collectively make
better use of limited resources and make effective changes to improve eth
nicity recording and health outcomes for our population.\n\nThe workshop w
ill include examples of work across the country\, to stimulate discussion
on areas for collaboration\, including:\n\n ADPH London: Tackling Racism
and Inequality Programme\n East of England : evidence reviews\n North We
st: Working group and literature search for interventions\n\nIf you have a
ny questions\, please contact england.nhs-nwhcph@nhs.net\n\nRegister here
