SUMMARY:LGA: Free school meal auto-enrolment: what unitary authorities need
to know to meet the October 2026 census
DESCRIPTION:The national policy landscape for free school meal (FSM) auto-e
nrolment is changing fast. By the October 2026 census\, the Universal Cred
it earnings threshold will be in place and transitional protections will h
ave ended. Councils will need robust systems to manage data and identify e
ntitled pupils – or risk some children missing out.\n\nThis LGA-hosted s
ession is designed\, in partnership with experts from Bremner &amp\; Co\,
Basis and FixOurFood\, to bring together unitary authorities to share prog
ress\, reflect on successes and lessons learned\, and prepare for what’s
ahead.\n\nThe session will help councils prepare for the challenges of th
e changing policy landscape\, ensuring no pupil falls through the cracks.\
n\nWhat to expect from the webinar:\n\nCase studies from Torbay and anothe
r unitary authority (tbc) that have recently implemented auto-enrolment\,
and a chance to pick their brains on their approach\, challenges and key l
earnings.\nA discussion about the evolving national context\, from FSM exp
ansion and Eligibility Checking Service (ECS) changes to new data-sharing
capabilities\, and what local authorities need to do now to strengthen the
ir processes and prepare for the October 2026 census.\n\nRegister here
