There has been an Association for Directors of Public Health, or an equivalent, for more than 160 years. The ADPH in its current form has been in place since 1989. In 2013 it became a Company Limited by Guarantee and in 2015 a Registered Charity.

ADPH works to a three year strategic Business Plan and produces Annual Reports. Since 2007 the Association has been funded by annual corporate subscriptions from members’ employing organisations. We also receive funding for specific projects and seek sponsorship where it conforms to our Sponsorship Policy.

Please click for further details on the values, history and  governance of ADPH. The Association is led by the Council which consists of the President, Honorary Officers and Member Representatives. You may view specific Board and Council roles here.

The core purpose of the DPH is independent advocacy for the health of the population and leadership for its improvement and protection. An outline of essential characteristics of the role of a DPH which have endured for more than 160 years and will continue into the future can be found here.
