Public Health and Commissioning

The conference explored the contribution that DsPH and their teams make to creating better services - particularly in the context of World Class Commissioning. There was also a facilitated session around the workforce which will inform a DH funded project around the DPH role and function. The report and evaluation will be available shortly.

Sexual Health Workshop - March 2009

WORLD CLASS COMMISSIONING FOR BETTER SEXUAL HEALTH

A workshop for Directors of Public Health and sexual health commissioners developed collaboratively by the ADPH and THT to launch their joint publication and held on Monday 16th March, Lighthouse West London, W11 1QT

This highly successful workshop offered a valuable opportunity for those leading the commissioning of local sexual health services to:

  • Examine national policies with colleagues and the Department of Health
  • Develop strategies to improve the commissioning of sexual health services
  • Show case and share successful local approaches
  • Discuss current issues with peers

Inequalities and Wellbeing – Working Together - joint with the ADSS and ADCS

The conference explored ways in which directors of public health, adult social services and children’s services can work together to reduce health inequalities and promote and improve wellbeing. The programme was chaired by Andrew Cozens, IDeA and included a panel discussion, presentations and workshops. Read the report from the conference.

ADPH Annual Conference 2007

The 2007 ADPH Annual Conference explored the political and advocacy role of Directors of Public Health - read the report here.

The conference had the specific objectives to:

  • explore working together with partners for health and well-being
  • examine collaboration with national organisations to tackle alcohol issues
  • understand how social marketing can promote and achieve change

Shaping Public Health for 150 Years

The Association of Directors of Public health first came into existence in 1856, and was chaired by the first Chief Medical Officer, Sir John Simon. We celebrated our 150th anniversary in 2006 and the four Chief Medical Officers from across the UK agreed to speak at our conference which explored the role of the DPH across the UK, both now and in the future.

Public Health in the New World - 28 April 2006


The aim of the 2006 ADPH annual conference was to air and discuss current issues across Public Health and to share up-to-date practice in commissioning and joint working. This all within the changing health care framework.
