The ADPH are keen to support those members who have expanded portfolios and will be running a workshop for this group. The main purpose of the day will be for the DsPH to problem solve together but we expect also to build in an input on theory of leadership.

DsPH with a wider portfolio and who would like to help us shape this day, should contact Zahra

Additionally, we will be holding an informal lunchtime discussion for this group at our annual conference in December. DsPH are welcome to join in to help us inform the outline of the workshop.

Following from the report on Development Needs of Recently Appointed DsPH, we have organised a workshop for DsPH who are new in post. The event will take place on Tuesday 27th November 2018 in St Brides Foundation, and will be chaired by ADPH Vice President, Jim McManus. The day will include input from more experienced DsPH, CEO from a local authority, a session on leadership as well as many networking opportunities. ADPH Policy Workshop and AGM 2018

Our annual Policy Workshop and AGM took place on 18 May 2018 in central London.

Programme for the workshop can be viewed here and it included:

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Annual Report Competition results
  • Sharing PH practice
  • Launch of the ADPH position statements

Please note that the policy workshop is open to Full and Affiliate members (DsPH) only. ADPH Associate and Alumni members are welcome to attend the afternoon AGM.

Air Quality Masterclasses – Autumn 2017

Health Inequalities and Air Pollution: What can PH do to improve air quality?

The ADPH in collaboration with Defra and PHE hosted two Air Quality Masterclasses (London and Leeds) in Autumn 2017.

These masterclasses were relevant for those members who:

  • Need more information about the urgency around air quality;
  • Are aware of the urgency of the matter but need ideas on how to increase its priority.

Objectives were:

  • Equip attendees with the most recent information;
  • Craft powerful arguments.

PHE, ADPH and Health Psychology in PH Network webinar: Behavioural Sciences for Public Health: the rough guide for PH specialists

This webinar was held  on Thursday 27th April 2017. 

It provided busy DsPH and PH Specialists a route map to understand the breadth of behavioural sciences and how they can be applied in public health, to help increase impact of your plans and strategies. The webinar also focused on the forthcoming national framework for behavioural sciences in Public Health.

ADPH Law Masterclass

ADPH, in collaboration with Bevan Brittan law firm, held a masterclass on Thursday 11th February 2016 in central London, looking at local government law and practice.

This masterclass enabled delegates to:

  • Discuss the nature of local government broad powers and duties in relation to health and the constitutional and legal framework that defines them.
  • Understand how public health law works.
  • Focus on place and people aspects, understanding the broad framework of local government powers and their combined usage with legislation in improving and protecting health.
  • Discuss the practical aspect of using the law to improve health by building relationships with lawyers and understanding the dos and don’ts when instructing a Council solicitor.

ADPH Storytelling Masterclass

ADPH ran a ‘Storytelling for Leaders’ Masterclass on Thursday 21st January 2016. Aimed at Directors of Public Health, or Senior Consultants, this Masterclass was facilitated by The Whole Story and looked at how to create stories as well as how to communicate them most effectively.
